ISAS works together with a multitude of national and international partners from research, science and industry. Cooperation with universities in research and teaching is of particular importance. ISAS is closely linked by joint appointments to TU Dortmund University, Ruhr University Bochum, University Duisburg-Essen and Technical University Berlin.

In addition, ISAS is integrated into the Leibniz Association, a vibrant, interdisciplinary network of non-university research institutes. These institutes are bundled into a comprehensive range of specialist disciplines in the Leibniz Research Alliances. ISAS is engaged in two alliances.

Health Technologies
Leibniz institutes in the Leibniz-Research Alliance on Health Technologies (formerly called Medical Technology: Diagnosis, Monitoring and Therapy) develop innovative techniques (preferably low invasive methods) to ensure high quality, affordable medical care in future. Methods of telemedicine, rapid testing or imaging methods for examination should help to improve therapies for diseased people.
INFECTIONS
SARS-CoV-2 hat der Gesellschaft vor Augen geführt, wie schnell sich ein bis dato unbekanntes Virus weltweit ausbreiten und das öffentliche Leben brachlegen kann.
Verstehen, wie sich diese und andere Infektionskrankheiten verbreiten und welche biomedizinischen, ökologischen und sozio-ökonomischen sowie politische Aspekte dabei eine Rolle spielen, gehört zu den Zielen des Leibniz-Forschungsverbunds ‚INFECTIONS in an Urbanizing World – Humans, Animals, Environments‘. Unter den 18 Partner-Instituten, die diesem Forschungsverbund angehören, ist seit Mai 2020 auch das ISAS. Prof. Dr. Matthias Gunzer, Immunologe und wissenschaftlicher Direktor der Abteilung Biospektroskopie, vertritt dabei das Institut.
