The advancement of analytical technologies (chemical and physical measurement processes) are prerequisites and a driving force for scientific progress. Innovative measuring techniques and optimised methods, suitable model systems and appropriate modelling and simulation procedures enable new insights into the composition, structure and dynamics of materials and biological systems. Continuous refinement and validation of new technologies is furthermore essential to measure molecular structures, components and processes in real samples and to transfer these technologies into practical applications.
With this in mind, ISAS concentrates on developments that combine materials sciences and life sciences to provide customised analytical techniques to solve the scientific challenges. Thus we want to establish which quantities of what substance are in a particular place at any particular time.
More than 70 scientists from the fields of chemistry, biology, physics and informatics are currently working at ISAS to push forward developments and to optimise them for use in health research.
