The body responsible for providing these web pages is the Leibniz-Institut für Analytische Wissenschaften – ISAS – e.V, Bunsen-Kirchhoff-Str. 11, D-44139 Dortmund.

Data protection and data security take a high priority in our institute because we take the protection of your personal data very seriously. We have taken technical and organisational measures that ensure compliance with the relevant legislation for data protection, and in particular the General Data Protection regulation (GDPR) and the Federal Data Protection Act (FDPA/BDSG-new). Compliance with legal data protection requirements in the use of our website is a central concern for us in order to be able to ensure that your personal data are handled in keeping with data protection.

In the following, we inform you about the collection of personal data when using our website. Personal data means any information that relates to you personally, e.g. name, address, e-mail addresses, user behaviour.

1. Collection, processing and use

Certain data are technically necessary for us to show you our website and to ensure its stability and security. The storage of this data on the server of the provider is indispensable for visiting our internet page (legal basis for this is Art. 6 (1) a GDPR) and includes, for example:

  • the client IP address
  • the name of the internet browser used
  • the time and date of the visit in question
  • the volume of the transferred data
  • the page opened at www.isas.de

The data you provide are only stored for statistical purposes on specially protected servers. Only authorised personnel engaged in managing the servers are entitled to access these data. As the data records for the statistical evaluation are not allocated to persons, they are only provided in anonymous form.

If we rely on contracted service providers for individual functions of our offer or use your data for advertising purposes, we will inform you in detail about the respective process below. In doing so, we also indicate the specified criteria for the storage duration.

In cases of individual contact, specific personal data will be collected including, for example, the e-mail address, name, telephone number or address. This is the case with general e-mail enquiries in particular. These entries are only provided on a voluntary basis. These data are also treated confidentially and will not be forwarded to third parties without your consent. In this context, we will delete the personal data after storage is no longer required, or restrict the processing if there are legal retention requirements. In isolated cases, relevant authorities can oblige us to disclose personal data if this is required to avert danger, for law enforcement or for other legally regulated reasons.

Your personal data are not collected, processed or used over and beyond this.

2. Use of cookies

Where required, the Leibniz-Institut für Analytische Wissenschaften – ISAS – e.V. uses so-called "cookies" on this website to continuously optimise it.

What is a cookie?

Cookies are text files usually comprising letters and numbers that are stored on the user's computer when visiting specific websites. Some cookies are important for the functionality of the web pages and automatically activated by us when a user visits them.

The use of cookies enables us to expand the functional scope of our website in order to make your visit as comfortable as possible. This means that data are stored on your computer whenever you use our website, for example to adjust the selected language for the visit or save your personal settings.

You can use the "Help" menu in the menu bar of your browser to find out how to prevent your browser from accepting new cookies, how to set your browser to notifyyou about the acceptance of a new cookie, or how you can deactivate cookies entirely.

If you disable the storage of cookies or delete already provided cookies, the scope and functionality of our website could be reduced as a result.

Which cookies do we use and for which purpose?

We use cookies to track your use of our internet pages during a visit and to store the data you provide and decisions you make (e.g. the language selection) while you are viewing them. These are the so-called "session cookies".

Session cookies will merely remain on your computer for the duration of your visit of our website.

We recognise you on your next visit. In this context, cookies are referred to as "persistent cookies". Persistent cookies are stored over and beyond your individual visit and serve us to recognise you on your next visit.

Our website may also include cookies from third-party providers. These cookies are set by third-party providers when the contents embedded in our website are viewed:

3. Tracking and analysis

The following section only applies if you have consented to the use of cookies.

Data is collected and saved on this website, using the web analysis software Matomo (www.matomo.org), a service of InnoCraft Ltd., 150 Willis St, 6011 Wellington, New Zealand, ("Matomo"), based on our justified interest in the statistical analysis of user behaviour for optimisation and marketing purposes as per Art. 6, paragraph 1 f, GDPR. For this purpose, pseudonymised user profiles can be created and evaluated from this data. Cookies can be used to do so. (Cookies are small text files which are saved locally in the cache of the site visitor's internet browser. The cookies allow the internet browser to be recognised, for example.) The data collected using Matomo technology (including your pseudonymised IP address) is processed on our servers and not transferred to third parties.

The collected IP addresses are automatically anonymised by making parts of the IP address unrecognisable (so-called IP masking). The IP address and the information generated by the cookies in the pseudonymous user profiles are not used to identify the website visitor personally, and are not collated with the personal data of the pseudonym bearer.

If you do not agree to the saving and evaluation of this data, you can reject the saving and use at the click of a mouse. In this case, a so-called opt-out cookie is saved in your browser, which means that Matomo does not collect any data about your session. Please note that the full deletion of your cookies means that the opt-out cookie is also deleted and may have to be reactivated by you.

4. Embedding videos from third-party providers

This website embeds videos from the video portals YouTube and Vimeo.

The use of these video platforms is based on our interest in presenting our online content in an appealing manner. Pursuant to Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, this is a legitimate interest. If appropriate consent has been obtained, the processing is carried out exclusively on the basis of Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR and § 25 (1) TTDSG. This consent can be revoked at any time.

Vimeo videos

This website uses plug-ins of the video portal Vimeo. The provider is Vimeo Inc., 555 West 18th Street, New York, New York 10011, USA.

Whenever you visit one of our pages featuring Vimeo videos and accepted our cookies, a connection with the servers of Vimeo is established. In conjunction with this, the Vimeo server receives information about which of our sites you have visited. Vimeo also receives your IP address. However, we have set up Vimeo in such a way that Vimeo cannot track your user activities and does not place any cookies.

For more information on the handling of user data, please consult Vimeo’s data privacy policy at: https://vimeo.com/privacy.

YouTube videos

Our website embeds videos of the website YouTube. The website operator is Google Ireland Limited (“Google”), Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland.

We use YouTube in the expanded data protection mode. According to YouTube, this mode ensures that YouTube does not store any information about visitors to this website before they watch the video. Nevertheless, this does not necessarily mean that the sharing of data with YouTube partners can be ruled out as a result of the expanded data protection mode. For instance, regardless of whether you are watching a video, YouTube will always establish a connection with the Google DoubleClick network.

As soon as you start to play a YouTube video on this website, a connection to YouTube’s servers will be established. As a result, the YouTube server will be notified, which of our pages you have visited. If you are logged into your YouTube account while you visit our site, you enable YouTube to directly allocate your browsing patterns to your personal profile. You have the option to prevent this by logging out of your YouTube account.

Furthermore, after you have started to play a video, YouTube will be able to place various cookies on your device or comparable technologies for recognition (e.g. device fingerprinting). In this way YouTube will be able to obtain information about this website’s visitors. Among other things, this information will be used to generate video statistics with the aim of improving the user friendliness of the site and to prevent attempts to commit fraud.

Under certain circumstances, additional data processing transactions may be triggered after you have started to play a YouTube video, which are beyond our control.

For more information on how YouTube handles user data, please consult the YouTube Data Privacy Policy under: https://policies.google.com/privacy?hl=en.

5. Exercising the rights of persons concerned

As a user of this website, you have the right to withdraw your consent to the use of your data at any time and to demand free information about the personal data stored about you. In addition to this, you can also enforce your rights to correction or erasure, restriction of processing, objection to the processing, or data portability. This requires an explicit application to the provider of this website.

You also have the right to raise a complaint about our processing of your personal data to a supervisory authority:

6. Links to other websites

As the provider of this website, we are responsible for the contents of our own online proposal. Under some circumstances, ur own contents need to be differentiated from links to contents provided by other providers. A link does not imply endorsement and we do not claim responsibility for these contents. The compliance of linked website operators with relevant data protection regulations is outside our sphere of influence. We are therefore unable to accept any liability for the contents of external websites. Only the respective third-party providers are responsible for damage arising from erroneous or illegal contents on their websites.
