The very latest technical equipment, flexible working hours and support in child care are just some of the benefits that ISAS provides as an employer. We employ around 200 people in research, technical services, and administration at our facilities in Dortmund and Berlin.

Research

Scientists from the disciplines of (bio-)chemistry, biology, physics and informatics work together at ISAS in interdisciplinary work groups. Experienced scientists oversee the training of junior scientists, they offer advice on doctoral research projects and lecture at the partner universities of ISAS.

Students support the institute in its work and are given the opportunity to write their bachelor or master thesis on one of the disciplines covered by ISAS. We are happy to offer internships in our scientific groups or technical services to students with an interest.

Vocational training

Training is important to us also beyond academic careers. ISAS offers training in the professions chemistry or biology laboratory technician, precision machinist, IT specialist or office management assistant.

Biology laboratory technicians are trained together with the Max-Planck Institute of Molecular Physiology and Dortmund Technical University.

Further training

As a non-university scientific institute, ISAS works in a rapidly developing, complex international environment. Although this offers exciting challenges, it also places particular requirements on our employees. Apart from initial and further training for scientific personnel, extra-occupational training of technical and administrative staff is therefore a prime objective for us. In addition to our range of regular English language courses, we promote the requirement-specific training of our staff through individual courses and offer support in obtaining further vocational and academic qualifications.

Foreign staff

We support our foreign employees and guest scientists in preparing for their stay in Germany and during their time here. We help them to complete the formalities for foreign visitors (visa and residency permit) and other dealings with official offices, arrange for social security insurance cover and assist them in opening a bank account and finding a place to live. In addition, we offer regular German language courses to our non-German speaking employees.
