Metabolomics

Identification and Quantification of relevant Metabolites

The focus is on the development and exemplary application of methods for qualitative and quantitative analysis of dynamic processes in biological systems to explore the metabolism and to identify relevant bio-markers considering metabolic and regulatory processes. Those investigations lead directly to the application in medical diagnosis.

Presently studies are concentrated on the affection of organs, in particular of lung and kidney but as well on the metabolites of human pathogenic microorganisms. Especially the rapid and non-invasive detection of relevant metabolites in human breath, in animal models or in the headspace of bacteria or cell cultures using ion mobility spectrometry (MCC-IMS) and prevailing identification using GC/MS has high potential for clinical application.
