Ion Mobility Spectrometry

The diagnosis and assessment of the sanitary and environmental risks resulting from the presence, the mobility and the fate of volatile organic compounds (VOC) in contaminated soils, undergrounds, groundwaters or old landfills, need an accurate knowledge of their transport dynamics inside and between the several media of the natural environment.
Results of field investigations of Benzene, Toluene and Xylene and other selected VOCs using a Multi-Capillary Column equipped Ion Mobility Spectrometer confirm that the instrument has a high discriminating power towards the several VOCs constituting complex contaminants. The method also gives a relevant information directly usable in a transfer and risk assessment model.
